Breast Cancer Support Group Talk

Last night, I gave the first of what I hope to be a series of talks to the Breast Cancer Support Group at Central Baptist Hospital. We discussed how Jin Shin Jyutsu is something that we already know how to do - babies suck their thumbs, people rest with their hands cradling their heads - - all Jin Shin Jyutsu self help! I taught the group some simple hand holds that they can utilize themselves to help with the emotional ups and downs of breast cancer as well as the more physical aspects such as keeping the lymph system clear.

Here are the 4 self help practices that can be done anywhere, anytime to harmonize the chest, clear the lymph system, and generally act as our personal janitors. Try these simple holds:

1. Drape one hand comfortably over the opposite shoulder close to the neck. The other hand makes an "ok" sign with each finger individually - index finger on top of thumbnail, then thumb on top of nail on index, middle, ring, and pinkie.

2. Drape one hand comfortably over the opposite shoulder close to the neck. The other hand is placed on the "cheek" area where the hipbone and leg meet. This is comfortably done seated with hand underneath.

3.  Tuck one hand into opposite armpit. You can hold the area just behind the armpit as well if it is comfortable.  Place other hand on the same side where leg and torso meet.

4.  Cross arms and hold upper arms between elbow and shoulder.

Hold gently. Wait to feel the energetic pulse rise and become relaxed and smooth and the pulse felt with each hand feels similar. Don't worry if you don't feel anything the first time you do this. Just hold as long as you would like. You can do these on either side of the body. Remember, if the hold is uncomfortable it is your signal that it is not what is needed. You can do any or all of these "flows" whenever you like, for as long as you like. You can do them with meditation, breathing, watching tv, on a long planeride, anywhere, anytime!

Meher Baba, a high spiritual teacher from India said "I have not come to teach, but to awaken!" My teaching of Jin Shin Jyutsu is to awaken what you already know, what is already familiar to you because it is the gift we were given from the Divine! I hope you will continue to rediscover it with me.
